In-Building Public Safety Radio Communication Systems

Learn about code requirements for providing these systems in new and existing buildings, the technology, use by emergency responders, and conducting radio signal compliance assessments

    Program:

    New and existing buildings often obstruct public safety radio signals that are essential for emergency responders.  To ensure radio functionality in buildings, fire code now require evaluations to determine whether supplemental in-building radio systems must be installed. This seminar will provide information about in-building radio system technology, code requirements for new and existing buildings, and conducting radio coverage compliance assessments, among other related topics.

    Speaker:

    Alan Perdue, Executive Director of the Safer Buildings Coalition.  Chief Perdue is a nationally recognized expert on code requirements for in-building public safety communication systems, and he frequently lectures on this topic throughout the United States.

    Chief Perdue served nearly 40 years in the fire service, eventually reaching the rank of Director of the Department of Emergency Services in Guilford County, North Carolina, and he holds Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and Fire Marshal (FM) credentials through the Center for Public Safety Excellence Commission for Professional Credentialing.

    Among his many professional accomplishments, Chief Perdue is a member of the International Accreditation Services Technical Advisory Committee for Fire & Life Safety Departments, serves as an Elected County Commissioner in Guilford County, NC, served on the board of directors of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and is a Past-president of the North Carolina County Fire Marshals Association.
